About Villimalé
Villimalé (Vilingili) is Malé's quiet neighbour: a residential island of around 6,700 people just 2 km west of the capital and ten minutes away by ferry. Private cars and motorbikes are banned, so its shaded lanes carry bicycles, electric buggies and pedestrians, and the pace drops the moment you step off the boat. Its west- and south-facing shores look out over open lagoon rather than city, which makes it the easiest sunset escape from Malé and a favourite with capital residents on Friday afternoons.

Beaches & photo spots on Villimalé
The island's sandy western shore with the sun going down over the channel — the classic reason locals come here; shoot from the sand or the breakwater.
Bicycles, buggies and painted walls under breadfruit and palms — an unhurried village feel minutes from Malé.
The capital's skyline across the water with the ferry coming and going — strong at dawn and blue hour.
Quieter stretch of sand and reef flats facing the open atoll, good for low-tide textures.

Practical notes for Villimalé
Villimalé has no designated bikini beach; it is a local residential island, so swim and shoot in modest dress as residents do.
Ferries run daily from Malé's Villingili terminal, about 10 minutes each way and very cheap, roughly every 10-15 minutes through the day and into the evening.
National MNDF and Civil Aviation Authority permits apply, and the island sits close to the capital's airport airspace — assume aerial work is off the table.
Photoshoot on Villimalé — FAQ
Public ferry from Malé (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun, 10 min). If you're already staying on Villimalé, we simply meet you there — we photograph guests on their own island.
Golden hour — roughly the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. We schedule every Villimalé session around it and move between jetty, beach and palm lines as the light changes.
It depends on the beach: swimwear is only allowed on designated tourist beaches on inhabited islands. We confirm Villimalé's rules before your shoot and plan looks and locations to match.
Often yes. Drone rules vary by island and resort; we check Villimalé's current permissions before your session and, where flying isn't possible, plan aerials from a nearby sandbank.
