About Fulidhoo

Fulidhoo is the northernmost inhabited island of Vaavu Atoll, a sliver of sand about 675 by 200 metres with around 400 residents, 56 km south of Male. It is one of the Maldives' best-loved small islands for two reasons: the stingrays and nurse sharks that gather daily along its southwestern shore, and its reputation for traditional culture, with Langiri drum-dance and Thaara performances still part of island life.

Beaches & photo spots on Fulidhoo

Fulidhoo Bikini Beach

The island's designated tourist beach; white sand against the atoll lagoon.

Stingray beach (southwestern shore)

Stingrays and nurse sharks come right to the shallows near the harbour, morning and evening — over-and-under and low-angle wildlife shots from knee-deep water.

Fulidhoo harbour and jetty

The natural-lagoon harbour; dhonis, jetty lines, and the shark-and-ray gathering point are all within a few steps.

Northwest tree tunnel

Overhanging trees on the island's lush northwest side form a natural green tunnel over the sand.

Fulidhoo Shark Point

Snorkel and dive site where nurse and reef sharks congregate; a short boat hop for in-water sessions.

Practical notes for Fulidhoo

01
Bikini beach rules

Swimwear is allowed only at the designated bikini beach; cover up in the village. Alcohol is not served on the island itself (a floating bar operates offshore).

02
Ferry days

The public ferry from Male runs Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00, taking about 3.5 hours for roughly USD 4; scheduled speedboats take about 90 minutes for USD 40-50 each way.

03
Best season

December to April offers the most reliable conditions; May to November is quieter with lower guesthouse rates.

04
Wildlife timing

The stingray and nurse shark gathering near the harbour happens daily, typically both morning and evening — plan shoots around those windows.
