About Fulhadhoo

Fulhadhoo, about 120 km from Male in the isolated Goidhoo group of Baa Atoll, is repeatedly singled out as one of the finest beach islands among Maldivian local islands. Around 300 people live in a village occupying only the eastern fifth of the 1.8 km island; the rest is palm forest fringed by more than a kilometer of white-sand tourist beach ending in a bare sandy cay. Its distance from the busy tourist corridors keeps it genuinely quiet.

Where we shoot

Beaches & photo spots on Fulhadhoo

Southwest bikini beach

Over a kilometer of designated tourist beach, a 15-minute walk from the village through greenery — empty foregrounds are easy to find.

The sandy cay at the beach's end

The main beach tapers into a bare sand spit — a natural runway of sand and shallow lagoon at both ends of the day.

Surrounding sandbanks

Several sandbanks sit off the island, some close enough to swim to; guesthouses arrange picnic drops.

Village east end

Compact one-street village with mosque and school — everyday island life against the harbor.

Practical notes for Fulhadhoo

01
Beach rules

Swimwear is allowed along the designated southwest tourist beach; the eastern beach by the village is for locals and modest dress applies there.

02
Getting there

Scheduled speedboats from Male take about 2 hours (roughly USD 45-55 one way; published schedules disagree on which days, so confirm when booking), usually connecting via Goidhoo since Fulhadhoo's harbor is small. The alternative is a 25-minute flight to Dharavandhoo plus a 40-45 minute boat, and a slow overnight supply dhoni also runs weekly.

03
Drone rules

As everywhere in the Maldives, drones need MNDF approval and a Civil Aviation Authority permit applied for well in advance — there is no small-drone exemption.

04
Cash

There is no ATM or bank on the island; bring cash for extras.
