About Velidhoo

Velidhoo is the most populous island of Noonu Atoll, home to about 1,800 people some 167 km north of Male, in what is regarded as one of the country's great fishing regions. It is a proper working island — fishing dhonis, a harbor completed in 2017, and a village organized into three wards including a reclaimed extension. Its best-loved landmark is the Velidhoo Bodu Nikagas, a banyan tree that islanders reckon at over 300 years old.
