About Thinadhoo

Thinadhoo is the capital of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and the principal town of the deep south, with around 10,000 people about 407 km from Malé. It has city status, a large reclaimed footprint, a substantial harbour and a domestic airport on neighbouring Kaadedhdhoo, a few minutes away by boat. It is a base rather than a beach destination, but it opens up the southern half of Huvadhu Atoll — famous dive channels, uninhabited islands, and the thundu kunaa mat-weaving island of Gadhdhoo across the lagoon.

Practical notes for Thinadhoo

01
Getting there

Fly Malé to Kaadedhdhoo Airport (about 75 minutes), then a short speedboat to Thinadhoo.

02
Dress and beaches

No resort-style bikini beach — swimwear only where a guesthouse designates an area; modest dress in town.

03
Drones

Nationwide permits required; the nearby airport restricts airspace.

It depends on the beach: swimwear is only allowed on designated tourist beaches on inhabited islands. We confirm Thinadhoo's rules before your shoot and plan looks and locations to match.

Often yes. Drone rules vary by island and resort; we check Thinadhoo's current permissions before your session and, where flying isn't possible, plan aerials from a nearby sandbank.
