on Bentota
Photography in Bentota, Southern Province: couples and honeymoon sessions, proposals, family portraits and drone aerials, shot by a team that works here.

About Bentota
Bentota sits where the Bentota Ganga river meets the sea, on a long sand spit that gives the town a calm river on one side and open surf on the other. It is the centre of Sri Lanka's water-sports coast, and the architect Geoffrey Bawa's estate at Lunuganga and Bevis Bawa's garden at Brief are both a short drive inland.

Where we shoot in Bentota
The narrow strip between river and ocean, with water on both sides in the same frame. Strongest from the air or from the river bank looking across.
Mangrove channels and still water behind the spit, calm when the sea is not. Good for boat-based work early.
Geoffrey Bawa's country estate, terraced gardens and long framed views. Grounds are ticketed and photography terms are worth confirming ahead.

Practical notes for Bentota
December to April is the reliable window. The river side stays workable in less settled weather when the beach does not.
Bentota is on the southern railway line and the coastal expressway, which makes it one of the easier south-coast towns to reach from Colombo or the airport.
