on Negombo
Photography in Negombo, Western Province: couples and honeymoon sessions, proposals, family portraits and drone aerials, shot by a team that works here.

About Negombo
Negombo is the town nearest Bandaranaike airport, which makes it the first and last stop for most trips, and it has been a fishing port far longer than a tourist one. A Dutch canal runs behind the beach, the lagoon behind that is fringed with mangrove, and the outrigger fleet still works off the sand.

Where we shoot in Negombo
Traditional oruwa boats drawn up on the sand, best at dawn as the night's catch comes in.
A straight colonial waterway behind the town, still water and palm reflections early.
Mangrove channels and stilt nets, worked from a small boat in the first hours of light.

Practical notes for Negombo
Negombo is about twenty minutes from the airport, which makes it the practical choice for a session on an arrival or departure day.
The main market runs early and is working, wet and crowded. It photographs well but is not a place for delicate clothing.
