About Galle
Galle is a walled Dutch colonial port on Sri Lanka's south-west corner, held by the Portuguese from 1588 and rebuilt in stone by the Dutch from 1663. The fort has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988 and is still a lived-in neighbourhood: grid streets, verandah houses, a working mosque and church, and ramparts you can walk the whole way round.

Where we shoot in Galle
The south-western wall catches the last hour of light head-on, with open sea behind. The most reliable golden-hour position in the fort.
The 1939 tower at Point Utrecht Bastion, framed by the rampart wall and coconut palms. Best early, before the walkway fills.
Colonnaded shopfronts and lime-washed walls in the fort's grid. Shade all afternoon, so it works when the ramparts are too harsh.

Practical notes for Galle
The fort faces west and south, so sunset is the strong session. Sunrise works on the eastern ramparts above the harbour and the streets are empty then.
The fort is compact and walked end to end in twenty minutes, so a session can move between the ramparts, the lighthouse and the streets without transport.

Most public beaches and streets in Galle need no permit. Heritage sites and some private grounds charge an entry or filming fee, which we check before your date.
Drone rules in Sri Lanka vary by site, and some heritage and military areas are closed to flights. We check the rules for Galle before your date and plan aerials around them.
