Maafushi is the island that opened the Maldives to independent travel: a 1.2 km strip in South Male Atoll with around 4,500 residents and more than fifty guesthouses and small hotels.
Planning a family photoshoot on Maafushi? The island sits about 26 km from Malé in Kaafu Atoll, roughly 30 minutes by speedboat. We shoot loose and playful first (running, splashing, building sand) and gather the classic all-together frames when everyone is warmed up. Sessions are paced around the kids, not a shot list.
Early morning is often best with small children: softer light, cooler air and empty beaches. Late afternoon golden hour works well for older kids and groups.
Speedboat from Malé in 30 minutes (~$25), or the public ferry (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Sat, Sun, 90 min). If you're already staying on Maafushi, we meet you there; we photograph guests on their own island.
Golden hour: roughly the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. We schedule every Maafushi session around it and move between jetty, beach and palm lines as the light changes.
