# Photographer on Curieuse, Seychelles

Curieuse is a small national park island off the north coast of Praslin, unusual for its red laterite soil and for being one of only two places where the coco de mer grows naturally. It carries a free-roaming population of Aldabra giant tortoises and a mangrove boardwalk, and the ruins of a nineteenth-century leprosarium stand at Anse St José.

## Where we shoot on *Curieuse*

- The tortoise range: Aldabra giant tortoises moving freely across open ground near the ranger station.
- Red earth and granite: The island's rust-coloured soil against grey boulders and blue water, a palette that exists nowhere else in the group.
- The mangrove boardwalk: A raised walkway through mangrove to Anse St José, with tunnelled green light.

## Practical notes for *Curieuse*

- Day-trip only: Curieuse is a national park with no accommodation. Boats run from Praslin and everyone leaves the same day, so sessions work to the boat's schedule.
- The tortoises: They are wild and protected. Keep distance, do not feed or sit on them, and follow the rangers' direction.

**How does the shoot work on Curieuse?**

We travel to Curieuse by ferry or light aircraft and arrive before your session. Tell us where you are staying and we will meet you there. If you are already staying on Curieuse, we meet you at your hotel or at the beach.

**When is the best light for a photoshoot on Curieuse?**

Golden hour: roughly the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. We schedule every Curieuse session around it and move between jetty, beach and palm lines as the light changes.

**Do we need permission to shoot on Curieuse?**

Public beaches in Seychelles are open to everyone and need no permit. Nature reserves and private islands charge an entry or filming fee, which we check before your date.

**Can you fly a drone for our photoshoot on Curieuse?**

Drone use in Seychelles needs clearance near the airport and over some reserves. We check the rules for Curieuse before your date and plan aerials around them.
