# Photographer on Bird Island, Seychelles

Bird Island is the northernmost island in the Seychelles and, unlike the granitic interior islands, a flat coralline cay. Between roughly May and October it hosts a sooty tern colony numbering in the hundreds of thousands, and Esmeralda, among the largest known giant tortoises, lives here.

## Where we shoot on *Bird Island*

- The tern colony: Dense nesting ground and constant movement overhead in season. Long lens, and stay well outside the colony edge.
- The beach ring: White coralline sand running most of the way round a very flat island, with open ocean on every side.
- The sand bar: A shifting spit at the northern tip, surrounded by water on three sides.

## Practical notes for *Bird Island*

- Access: Bird Island is reached by a short scheduled flight from Mahé, and the single lodge controls access to the island.
- Nesting season: The colony is present roughly May to October. Nesting birds are protected and approaching the colony on foot is not permitted.

## Photoshoot on *Bird Island*: FAQ

**How does the shoot work on Bird Island?**

We travel to Bird Island by ferry or light aircraft and arrive before your session. Tell us where you are staying and we will meet you there. If you are already staying on Bird Island, we meet you at your hotel or at the beach.

**When is the best light for a photoshoot on Bird Island?**

Golden hour: roughly the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. We schedule every Bird Island session around it and move between jetty, beach and palm lines as the light changes.

**Do we need permission to shoot on Bird Island?**

Public beaches in Seychelles are open to everyone and need no permit. Nature reserves and private islands charge an entry or filming fee, which we check before your date.

**Can you fly a drone for our photoshoot on Bird Island?**

Drone use in Seychelles needs clearance near the airport and over some reserves. We check the rules for Bird Island before your date and plan aerials around them.

**How quickly do we get the photos from our Bird Island shoot?**

Your full edited gallery arrives within 48 hours, print-ready files plus social crops, with a preview first so you can choose favourites and request edits.
