Vilingili is the capital of Gaafu Alifu Atoll and one of the largest towns in the south, with nearly 9,000 people about 378 km from Malé. It is reached by a domestic flight to Kooddoo airport and a short speedboat hop, and it is the commercial and administrative hub of Huvadhu, one of the world's largest and deepest atolls, whose channels and reefs are renowned among divers.
