# Maldives Photographer on Ukulhas

Ukulhas is a slender island in Alif Alif Atoll, about 1,025 metres long and 225 wide and home to roughly 1,000 people, that has become the Maldives' best-known example of a community-run eco island. It pioneered a full waste-management system among inhabited islands and won the national Green Leaf Award in 2014, and its swept streets and cared-for shoreline show it. Tourism only began here in late 2012, so the village character is still very much intact.

## Beaches & photo spots on *Ukulhas*

- Bikini Beach (west side): Long designated tourist beach on the island's western side, among the most generous on any local island, with direct sunset light.
- Gaagandu rock: Described as the biggest isolated rock in the Maldives, a nearby snorkelling landmark reached by boat.
- Fushi picnic island: Uninhabited picnic islet near Ukulhas used for snorkelling trips; bare-island and lagoon frames.
- Main jetty and harbour: The arrival jetty over clear reef shallows, with the tidy village front behind it.

## Practical notes for *Ukulhas*

- Bikini beach rules: Swimwear is permitted only on the designated beach on the island's western side; modest dress applies in the village, and the community takes its clean-island rules seriously, so carry your litter out.
- Getting there: Public ferries from Male run three days a week (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday), taking about 4.5 hours for roughly USD 4; scheduled speedboats run most days for about USD 50. A local ferry also connects from Rasdhoo daily except Friday.
- Best season: December through April is the dry season and high season here, with the calmest seas for the western beach and boat trips.
- Drones: Maldives-wide MCAA permit rules plus island council permission apply to every drone flight.

## Photoshoot on *Ukulhas*: FAQ

**How do we get to Ukulhas for the shoot?**

Speedboat from Malé in 90 minutes (~$50). If you're already staying on Ukulhas, we meet you there; we photograph guests on their own island.

**When is the best light for a photoshoot on Ukulhas?**

Golden hour: roughly the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. We schedule every Ukulhas session around it and move between jetty, beach and palm lines as the light changes.

**Can we wear swimwear for our photoshoot on Ukulhas?**

Yes. Ukulhas has a designated bikini beach, so swimwear and beachwear frames are fine there. Elsewhere on the island modest dress applies, which we plan around.

**Can you fly a drone for our photoshoot on Ukulhas?**

Often yes. Drone rules vary by island and resort; we check Ukulhas's current permissions before your session and, where flying isn't possible, plan aerials from a nearby sandbank.

**How quickly do we get the photos from our Ukulhas shoot?**

Your full edited gallery arrives within 48 hours, print-ready files plus social crops, with a preview first so you can choose favourites and request edits.
