Muli is the capital of Meemu Atoll, a compact island of about 950 people roughly 139 km south of Malé with its own small domestic airport. It sits on the atoll's eastern rim facing the open ocean, which brings surf to the nearby outer reefs in season and gives its eastern shore big skies and waves, while the lagoon side stays calm. Meemu is off the main tourist circuit, so Muli's guesthouses and harbour feel unhurried, and boats reach sandbanks, reefs and the atoll's surf breaks within minutes.

- Dress and drones: Swimwear only on the designated tourist beach; modest dress elsewhere. Drones need national permits and are restricted near the airstrip.
