# Maldives Photographer on Huraa

Huraa is a compact island in North Male Atoll about 20 km from the capital, roughly 850 by 300 metres and walkable end to end in twenty minutes. It is ringed by resorts yet still an unhurried local village. Its rarest asset is a 5.3-hectare protected mangrove reserve at the northern tip, home to ten mangrove species, alongside an east-side tourist beach with a snorkel-grade house reef.

## Beaches & photo spots on *Huraa*

- Mangrove reserve walkway: A wooden boardwalk through protected wetland with crabs and birdlife. Green, textural frames unlike anything else near Male; kayak access via some guesthouses.
- East-side bikini beach: The designated beach sits directly over the house reef, which reads through the surface for elevated and split-level shots.
- House reef snorkel: Shore-entry reef off the tourist beach, so underwater sessions need no boat. Mornings are calmest and clearest.
- Village lanes and jetty: A quiet Maldivian village a short walk from the beach, for everyday-life and arrival-jetty frames.

## Practical notes for *Huraa*

- Best season: November to April brings calm seas and the clearest water; May to October is surf season with choppier conditions and lower guesthouse rates.
- Ferry days: The public ferry from Male departs around 14:30-15:30, takes 70-90 minutes, and costs under 2 USD, with no Friday service; the return leaves Huraa about 08:00. Speedboats take 25-30 minutes for roughly 30-50 USD.
- Dress code: Swimwear is permitted only on the eastern bikini beach; Huraa is a Muslim community and modest dress and no alcohol apply island-wide.

**How do we get to Huraa for the shoot?**

Speedboat from Malé in 30 minutes (~$35), or the public ferry (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Sat, Sun, 75 min). If you're already staying on Huraa, we meet you there; we photograph guests on their own island.

**When is the best light for a photoshoot on Huraa?**

Golden hour: roughly the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. We schedule every Huraa session around it and move between jetty, beach and palm lines as the light changes.

**Can we wear swimwear for our photoshoot on Huraa?**

Yes. Huraa has a designated bikini beach, so swimwear and beachwear frames are fine there. Elsewhere on the island modest dress applies, which we plan around.
