# Maldives Photographer on Hithadhoo

Hithadhoo is the largest island in Addu Atoll and the heart of Addu City, home to around 13,800 people at the southern tip of the Maldives. It is linked by the Addu link road and causeways to Maradhoo, Feydhoo and Gan, giving it something almost unheard of in the country: a drive of well over ten kilometres across lagoon and islands. Its northern end holds the Eidhigali Kilhi and Koattey protected area, a freshwater lake, wetland and nature reserve with rich birdlife, while the western ocean shore and long lagoon make it a varied base for photographers.

- Eidhigali Kilhi and Koattey nature reserve: Lake, mangrove and wetland at the island's northern tip, with birdlife and still water in the soft light of early morning.
- Addu link road and causeways: The road crossing the lagoon between islands: leading lines with turquoise water on both sides, and cyclists and scooters for scale.
- Western ocean shore: Open-sea coastline with surf and sunset light.

- Getting there: Fly Malé to Gan International Airport (about 90 minutes), then drive 20-30 minutes along the link road to Hithadhoo.
- Dress and beaches: Hithadhoo is a residential city: swimwear only where guesthouses designate a tourist beach area; modest dress everywhere else.
- Drones: Nationwide permits plus council permission; the Koattey reserve and the Gan airport zone add restrictions.

Golden hour: roughly the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. We schedule every Hithadhoo session around it and move between jetty, beach and palm lines as the light changes.

**Can we wear swimwear for our photoshoot on Hithadhoo?**

It depends on the beach: swimwear is only allowed on designated tourist beaches on inhabited islands. We confirm Hithadhoo's rules before your shoot and plan looks and locations to match.
