# Maldives Photographer on Himmafushi

Himmafushi is a compact fishing and boat-building island of about 2,000 people, only 17 km from Male in North Male Atoll, one of the closest local islands to the capital. It is best known to surfers for Jailbreaks, the long right-hander breaking off its southern edge, and to day-trippers for its souvenir shops and working dhoni shipyard. The result is a village that mixes real trade with an easy, salt-worn charm.

## Beaches & photo spots on *Himmafushi*

- Jailbreaks surf break: Right-hand point/reef break off the island's south edge with long rides and barrel sections; telephoto surf work from the shore or a boat.
- Bikini Beach (northern tip): Sandy designated-swimwear stretch under coconut palms at the island's north end.
- Dhoni shipyard: Traditional wooden boats built and repaired in the open. Rare craft-documentary material.
- Souvenir street: The village's shop-lined lane, busy on excursion days, good for colour and street frames.
- Ferry jetty and lagoon: The Male-facing jetty with speedboat traffic against a clean lagoon horizon.

## Practical notes for *Himmafushi*

- Bikini beach rules: Swimwear is tolerated at the beach on the island's northern tip near the guesthouses; elsewhere on the island, dress modestly as in any Maldivian village.
- Getting there: The public ferry between Male (Jetty 1) and Himmafushi runs daily except Fridays, about 50 minutes for roughly USD 2; shared speedboats make the trip in 15-20 minutes for about USD 10-15 several times a day.
- Surf season: Jailbreaks works year-round, but the recognised surf season runs from mid-March to the end of November, outside the dry-season peak. That matters if you are pairing surf frames with beach sessions.
- Drones: Maldives-wide MCAA permit rules apply to every flight, plus island council permission; without paperwork keep the drone grounded.

**How do we get to Himmafushi for the shoot?**

Speedboat from Malé in 20 minutes, or the public ferry (Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Sat, Sun, 45 min). If you're already staying on Himmafushi, we meet you there; we photograph guests on their own island.

**When is the best light for a photoshoot on Himmafushi?**

Golden hour: roughly the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. We schedule every Himmafushi session around it and move between jetty, beach and palm lines as the light changes.

**Can we wear swimwear for our photoshoot on Himmafushi?**

It depends on the beach: swimwear is only allowed on designated tourist beaches on inhabited islands. We confirm Himmafushi's rules before your shoot and plan looks and locations to match.
