# Maldives Photographer on Felidhoo

Felidhoo is the administrative capital of Vaavu (Felidhe) Atoll, yet it is a village of barely 620 people on an island of 0.14 km², roughly 78 km south of Malé. It sits on the atoll's eastern rim close to the channels that make Vaavu famous for diving (strong currents, nurse sharks and the renowned Fotteyo Kandu), and a handful of guesthouses use it as a base for those waters and for the sandbanks inside the lagoon. The island itself is calm, with a designated bikini beach and a working harbour.

- Bikini beach: The island's designated tourist beach is compact, sandy and quiet, with open lagoon light.
- Fotteyo Kandu and the eastern channels: Vaavu's signature dive channels a short boat ride away, for underwater work with sharks and schooling fish and boat-deck frames of the atoll edge.
- Lagoon sandbanks: Bare sandbanks inside the atoll reached by dhoni: minimal sand-and-water sets for portraits.
- Harbour and jetty: Dhonis and speedboats in the small harbour, with fish-cleaning and boat-prep scenes in the early morning.

## Practical notes for *Felidhoo*

- Getting there: Scheduled speedboats from Malé take about 90 minutes; the public ferry is slower and runs only on certain days, so confirm with your guesthouse.
- Bikini beach rules: Swimwear only on the designated beach; modest dress applies in the village. With around five guesthouses, book ahead in high season.
- Drones: Nationwide MNDF and Civil Aviation Authority permits plus island council permission are required for any flight.

Golden hour: roughly the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. We schedule every Felidhoo session around it and move between jetty, beach and palm lines as the light changes.

**Can we wear swimwear for our photoshoot on Felidhoo?**

Yes. Felidhoo has a designated bikini beach, so swimwear and beachwear frames are fine there. Elsewhere on the island modest dress applies, which we plan around.

Often yes. Drone rules vary by island and resort; we check Felidhoo's current permissions before your session and, where flying isn't possible, plan aerials from a nearby sandbank.
