Eydhafushi is the capital of Baa Atoll, a busy island of about 2,600 people roughly 114 km north of Malé and a short boat ride from Dharavandhoo airport. It is the atoll's commercial centre, with harbour, shops, offices and the regional hospital, and historically a weaving island, known for the fine feyli sarongs once made here. It is less a beach island than a working base, but it sits within reach of Hanifaru Bay's manta aggregations and the UNESCO biosphere reefs, and guesthouses run boats to both.

- Harbour front: Baa's busiest harbour with dhonis, cargo boats and speedboats: working-atoll scenes at sunrise.
- Hanifaru Bay (by boat): The world-famous manta feeding site, regulated and snorkel-only, for in-water and boat frames in season.
- Town lanes: The densest streets in the atoll, with shops and tea houses for documentary and street frames.

## Practical notes for *Eydhafushi*

- Getting there: Fly Malé to Dharavandhoo (about 20-25 minutes) and take a short speedboat across to Eydhafushi; scheduled speedboats from Malé are also available and take several hours.
- Manta season: Hanifaru Bay's mantas gather roughly May to November with the southwest monsoon; access is by licensed boat only, with no scuba.
- Dress and drones: Modest dress applies in town; swimwear only where guesthouses designate. Drones need national permits and face extra restrictions around the biosphere zones and the nearby airport.

Golden hour: roughly the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. We schedule every Eydhafushi session around it and move between jetty, beach and palm lines as the light changes.
