# Maldives Photographer on Dhangethi

Dhangethi is a lived-in village island in south-eastern South Ari Atoll, 87 km from Male, about 925 by 250 metres with a community of around 1,200 people. It pairs everyday Maldivian life, from its cultural centre and old mosque to cafes and street-corner conversations, with a house reef snorkelled straight from shore and quick boat access to the atoll's famous whale shark and manta grounds.

- Bikini Beach: The fenced tourist beach a two-minute walk from the village: clean sand and shallow turquoise water with facilities on hand.
- Dhangethi Cultural Centre: The island's heritage display of traditional Maldivian life, for texture, craft and detail shots away from the beach.
- Masjid Rahma (old mosque): Dhangethi's traditional old mosque, a heritage architecture subject rare on guesthouse islands.
- House reef: A lively reef reached directly from shore. Turtles, rays and reef fish for in-water and split-level frames.
- Harbour jetty: The village jetty where dhonis come and go; everyday island life against the lagoon.

## Practical notes for *Dhangethi*

- Bikini beach rules: Swimwear is only for the marked bikini beach; around the village, cover shoulders and knees in keeping with local customs.
- Ferry days: The public ferry from Male runs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 09:00, taking about six hours with a stop at Mahibadhoo for around 5 USD; returns run Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Speedboats take about 90 minutes for around 35 USD.
- Drone use: Drones require MNDF clearance and a Civil Aviation Authority permit arranged in advance; ask the guesthouse before flying over the village.

**How do we get to Dhangethi for the shoot?**

Speedboat from Malé in 90 minutes (~$45), or the public ferry (Mon, Wed, Sat, 360 min). If you're already staying on Dhangethi, we meet you there; we photograph guests on their own island.

**When is the best light for a photoshoot on Dhangethi?**

Golden hour: roughly the last 60–90 minutes before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. We schedule every Dhangethi session around it and move between jetty, beach and palm lines as the light changes.

**Can we wear swimwear for our photoshoot on Dhangethi?**

Yes. Dhangethi has a designated bikini beach, so swimwear and beachwear frames are fine there. Elsewhere on the island modest dress applies, which we plan around.
