Anse Intendance is a wide beach on the exposed southern tip of Mahé with no protecting reef in front of it, which is why the swell rolls in unbroken and why the sand stays dramatic and largely empty. Forested hills come almost to the back of the beach.

- The granite ends: Boulders closing both ends of the bay, framing the sand between them.
- The treeline: Palms and takamaka right at the back of the beach, giving shade and foreground when the sun is high.

- Swimming: There is no reef and the current can be strong, particularly in the south-east trades. This is a beach to photograph rather than to swim at.
